University of Washington Build-A-Husky

I recently got a chance to work with the fine folks over at University of Washington on a super fun little papertoy project. We created a papertoy of their husky mascot as a fun give away at the Paws-On Science event. Kids who came through the event that weekend got a papertoy they could punch out and assemble with no gluing or cutting. Once the Husky is assembled you can tap on his hands and watch him come to life as he gently rocks back and forth and his eyes move! Thanks to the U of W for the fun project! Click Shots

Click Shots is a super fun toy from Hog Wild, that I had the pleasure of designing, packaging and illustrating. You launch the Cruncher from it's clip and magnetically attract collectable coins. This was such a fun project to work on and I'm super excited to see it making it's way out into the world. You can see more pics of the toy and packaging on my Behnace portfolio, check out click-shots.com for more details and look for them soon at finer toy retailers.

Shove It!

I'm super excited to have a deck in Shove It, a skate deck and papertoy art show curated by Garrison Beau Scott. There is a Kickstarter campaign going on right now to get the show up and running. Proceeds from the art show will go towards building a skate park in Des Moines! Check out all the great decks (my deck posted above) and make a pledge! These Decks would look great on a wall or under your feet. The show also features a cool papertoy that will be customized to match the decks. Thanks to baykiddead for inviting me to be a part of this amazing lineup of artist!

More Disney fun for WonderGround Gallery

Here are some more Disney themed large scale paper sculptures in shadow boxes that I created for the WonderGround Gallery. The only one still available is "Evil Awakened" but we got more pieces in the works. If you happen to be down Disneyland way check it out.
"California Bound" 16"x20"x4"
This piece was inspired by Disney and Mickey moving to California from my hometown Kansas City. I've always loved Floyd Gottfredson's comic strip tales about Mickey so I decided I wanted to feature a character that only existed in the comic strips, Mickey's horse Tanglefoot.

"Caretakers" 16"x20"x4"
This Wall-E and Eve piece was part of the Pixar themed show that just closed last month.
"Bilge Rat" 16"x20"x4"

"Evil Awakened" 16"x20"4"
Both of these pieces were created for the Good vs. Evil show that opened mid December.

Official blurb:
The battle between good and evil has never been stronger. So the questions become … Who will rise to the challenge? Who will prevail? Only a peek inside WonderGround Gallery will reveal the ever-lasting rivalries of our fairytale world.  Join in the excitement Dec. 15 at WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney® District at the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, CA, as  interpretations of frightful and delightful characters by various artists are unveiled as part of ‘Good vs. Evil.’  For more information visit www.ArtofDisneyParks.com.

Paper Goerge Liquor Onament

A fun paper Christmas ornament  I created for John K (creator of Ren and Stimpy) to send to his KickStarter supporters. Based on his character George Liquor and nodding to his new project "Cans Without Labels". It was a real treat to work with a legend like John and get to do my take on one of his iconic characters! The template was sent out as a pdf and people can print it out and build their own little man in a can! Merry Can-mas!

Loaded Goat CD & Coaster case

My band Loaded Goat cut an album and we wanted to make something cool and original for our CD case instead of a plastic jewel case like everyone else. In the age of digital downloads we wanted to make something tangible and hand crafted for our fans. This is what we came up with the coaster case! The CD slides into this little paper frame I designed and double sided coasters slide in in front and behind to make the case. The front of the coaster is the album cover and the back is the track list.  There are little flaps that fold in from the center of the frame to hold the coasters in the center of the frame.  Each pack has to be hand folded and assembled but our fans are worth it! Check out the band and me playing banjo and mandolin here www.loadedgoatband.com and you can order the CD here.

Memories Are Made of This @ Munky King

Opening tonight Memories Are Made of This, the final art show at Munky King curated by Super Cooper. The show is based on Childhood Memories in celebration of Super Coopers 13th birthday. My piece below "Peter Pez" is based on my childhood love of Pez dispensers and my love/hate for clowns. I was fascinated by the idea of these classically whimsical fun makers who's very existence was just to make kids laugh, in fact I even wanted to be on when I grew up, however anytime I actually saw one in real life they scared the hell out of me! So there you go. If your in the Melrose area make sure you check out the show. More info here. Thanks for Super Cooper for being, well, SUPER! Happy B-Day buddy.

Night of the Exquisite Corpse

Opening tonight at the Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis, Night of the Exquisite Corpse. This is a cool papertoy project and exhibition that features over 50 artist and me. Each artist customized a zombie papertoy from a common template and the cool part is that the body parts can be mixed and rearranged "Exquisite Corpse" style. Pretty fun idea I can't wait to see all the results. You can find more info here.  Below is a little preview of my contribution "Little Smith". Thanks to Lindsay and Light Grey Art Lab for inviting me to praticipate in such a fun and unique show. Templates will be available online soon here.

Crazy For Cult NY

I was so busy this week I forgot to post about Gallery 1988's Crazy for Cult show that opened in New York last night. I've had a blast making pieces for Gallery 1988's shows and was super honored to be in their debut show in New York. Sounds like it was a big hit. Above is my piece "A Guy With a Good Imagination" based on the movie UHF on of my all time faves. Weird Al was one of my heros growing up and UHF's theme of heart and imagination betting the bad guys really struck a chord with me when I first saw it. The piece is made out of spray painted cardstock in a wood frame with glass in the front. The show will be on display at 64 Gansevoort in the Meat Packing District through September 1st, Wednesday through Sundays, 11-6. Here is a video from the opening you can see my piece hanging on the wall around the 2:30 mark. Thanks to Gallery 1988 for inviting me to
